All SSV Right Hand
Drive Conversions comply to the LVVTA (Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association)
Low Volume Vehicle Standard 190-70(01) and are Certified by an LTSA approved
and LVVTA appointed Engineer. Any left hand drive passenger vehicle that
is converted to Right Hand Drive in New Zealand is covered by these standards,
however there can be a great deal of difference in the finish and engineering
quality from converter to converter.
What sets SSV
Right Hand Drive Camaro Conversions apart from the others?
ABS
Molded Plastic
Dash, Dash Pad's & Frame, Air Bag Cover, Glove Box, Fuse Cover,
Kick Panel, Consul, Air Distribution Box's, etc. Just like Factory!
Because we can mold components "in house" from ABS
Plastic we are able to reduce the use of Fibre Glass Reinforced Plastic
components to a minimum, requiring only the Binnacle and some small
vent, Wiper and fixing molds to be made from FRP.
Above is a picture showing our 1996 ABS dash frame ready for instillation,
note the mirrored vinly pads, including the Fully Functioning Air Bag
Cover.
Mirrored
Wipers The
LVVTA standard requires that windscreen wipers be mirrored, and although
we have seen some very poor attempts to comply, such as Holden wiper
assemblies being adapted in such a manor that an unswept area of around
200mm adjacent to the new drivers side A pillar remains! SSV has fully
complied to the LVVTA standard and are the first company in the world
to perform a virtual mirror image wiper conversion on the Camaro, with
full wiper coverage!
The picture above shows the completed, fully functioning wiper conversion
on the Camaro.
Catalytic
Converter "Hump" Reduction
The new drivers side foot area contains the large "hump" molded
into the floor to accommodate the catalytic converter. Many converters
simply leave the floor as it is, this seems especially true of light
truck converters, which in our view makes for an unpleasant driving
experience as well as an unsafe driving environment. It is very easy
for the hump to interfere with the drivers foot, especially in an emergency
breaking situation. The LVVTA standard requires that the old drivers
floor space be replicated on the new drivers side, this requires some
skillful engineering, SSV complies to the standard, thus making for
a safe and pleasurable driving experiance. The difference has to be
experienced to be appreciated.
The picture above on the left shows a catalytic converter "hump"
prior to re-sectioning, the picture above on the right shows the finished
result after re-sectioning. Both seats are in the full back position.
Bonnet
Pull. It may
seem a small item to list but if you pull in to a garage and want to
check under the hood, then this saves you the inconvenience of leaning
over to the old drivers side. Many converters simply don't bother!
Pride
in our work.
Pride in what we do shows through in the finished product. The car drives
as if it were a factory right hand drive, the interior fit-out is second
to none. The value of the vehicle is actually increased rather then
being devalued as with some poor quality conversions that we have seen.
Below is a finished interior right hand drive conversion on a 1996 Camaro.
WARNING
As stated previously
all right hand drive conversions on passenger cars in New Zealand are
covered by the LVVTA standards. It appears some engineers interpret
these standards differently depending on which part of New Zealand you
live in. SSV uses the LVVTA standard's as it's Bible and makes every
effort to comply. However we constantly see vehicles converted that
clearly do not meet the standard as written, this includes vehicles
that have been signed off by an engineer with wipers that do not sweep
the correct way, dangerous floor "Humps" as well as some dangerous
fittings. We have seen a vehicle where the passenger side air bag has
been covered with a one piece Fiberglas dash, a disaster waiting to
happen! We have evidence that suggests an engineer has "turned
a blind eye" on a conversion where the headlights dipped into traffic
to avoid putting his client to the work and expense of converting the
headlights to comply with the standard. We believe in some instances
unsafe conversions are being put onto New Zealand roads!
SSV strongly
advises anyone that has a vehicle which requires a right hand conversion
or intends to import a vehicle in the future that will require conversion,
to insist that the converter complies to the LVVTA standard for right
hand drive steering conversions.
